Private piano lessons take place once weekly in my home studio. Lesson time duration ranges from 30 minutes to one hour depending on the student's age and level. The studio runs on an eighteen week semester basis with the fall semester beginning late August and the spring semester ending the first week of June. Each student is unique and has his or her own way of learning. As a teacher, I tailor the curriculum to suit the needs of each individual student. Classical piano literature is the main genre of focus but other styles, like jazz and film music, will be explored and enjoyed along the way.
Performing is an important aspect of being a pianist and is strongly encouraged in my studio. One of my goals as a teacher is to help my students learn how to enjoy sharing their music with others. There are two formal recitals each year. Additional performance opportunities are provided monthly whether it be playing for fellow students in an informal studio group class, playing for residents at a retirement home, or participating in the Achievement In Music program.
Summer is a time to relax and enjoy the time of year when we can actually spend time out of doors, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to take lesson time to explore different kinds of music or delve deeper into music theory and composition. Because three months of summer break is a bit long for fingers to go without playing, each student is expected to take a minimum of six summer lessons.
